I got lots of questions this weekend, like what did you think when you saw this headline – “Braun pulled from next 2 Nationwide races.” I wish it did not happen and I wish Colin could be in the car learning and working to improve, but I have been in this business for over 30 years working for many car owners, and until I look at the side of the hauler and see my name there, I do what the guy whose name is there.

In Colin’s case that is Jack Roush, Con-way Freight and 3M. Colin races because of these people. As the famous line in the movie “The Right Stuff” says, “No bucks no Buck Rogers.” Con-way has been behind Colin through thick and thin and there is not a better sponsor in racing. Colin’s level in racing has long passed my ability to pay for it. The 3 groups who are spending very big $ to allow Colin a chance to prove himself expect results, and they want them now, not next year or the next race.

Colin has lived this from the start of his career. We, as a family, were paying for and doing all the work to go racing. Colin knew there was always the good possibility that this race could be his last and he had to do “something special” now to get noticed. Marty Reid asked him if he was afraid for his job at Roush, and Colin said he has always been afraid for his job from the time he was 5 and racing quarter midgets. Jack has had great success at bringing drivers along. Colin knows he has something like 14 races with Con-way on the car and knows he still has a shot at the remaining races if things turn around.

I understand that Jack once sat down the current driver of the #16 Cup car and look how he is doing now. Hope history repeats itself.

About Jeff Braun

Jeff Braun went to his first car race at age 3. He started driving karts at age 7. Jeff graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a B.S Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981.

In 1982, he got an offer to manage a new team (Transact Inc.) to field cars for Alan Kulwicki in ASA competition. Jeff bought out the owners of Transact and became President and majority owner 2 years later.

In 1990 Jeff decided to take Transact into a pure race engineering consulting business. In the years to follow, Transact has engineered almost every type of race car run in the world.

Jeff has won 3 Sports Car championships in his career and many races.

With fellow engineer, Paul Haney, Jeff wrote a race engineering technical book, “Inside Racing Technology”.

Despite all the success as a engineer in major race series, Jeff says racing with his son Colin and family are the most special. The family including son Travis and wife Diane raced karts all over the world winning many races and 5 US National championships with Colin driving.

Jeff and Colin continue to work together on the business aspects of racing now that Colin is a NASCAR Nationwide series driver for Roush Fenway Racing.

Jeff is currently engineering cars in the Grand Am Rolex Daytona Prototype series for Level 5 Motorsports.
