Things are about to get busy for Colin and I. Starting at Chicago Colin will be in the #16 Con-way Freight Ford for 7 weekends in a row. In that time I have 4 races and a test. So it looks like I will have to be looking for ways to watch the races from the track on my computer or race back to the motel to watch in the room. It will be crazy times of airplanes and motels, but we all love it.

Colin had some really good results lately. New Hampshire went well for a track he does not really like. He had a great battle with Elliot Sadler at the end and came out on top. Colin said he learned so much racing him wheel to wheel for about 20 laps. Elliot threw all the tricks he had at Colin. Colin said he was just smiling when he thought he had him passed and Elliot would pull some trick and block him. Colin said it was fun to learn from him.

It looks like Colin and Ricky Vires are really starting to gel. They have been spending a bunch of time together and are on the same page. The influence he can have will start to show soon and in the next 7 races I think it will really come to show how smart he is and how he and Colin work together.

To me it is almost like a fresh start to the season for Colin. 6 races in a row is important and you need that to get things rolling and find that momentum. It is really hard to run a race or 2 then sit out some. He has 14 of the last 19 races to drive and with the way the economy is now that is a great opportunity. There are 1000's of drivers that would love that chance.

The goals have had to change some when Jack Roush decided to give the unsponsored races to other drivers. It will be impossible to win the rookie of the year award and a top 15 in the driver points will not happen. That is not a big deal now, all that is important is to preform at a very high level and improve every weekend. Colin is very focused on this new goal.

It has been cool to see all the Facebook and Twitter messages sent to Colin and how people are so behind him and his situation. The people at Con-way Freight, 3M, Activ8, and all the other sponsors have been great and just keep supporting Colin.

Well I am off to Salt Lake City and Colin is off to Chicago. Looks like I will see more of my son on TV in the next 2 months than I will in person. Hope everyone had a great 4th of July and got to spend it with your family... and not watching them on TV, but in person .

About Jeff Braun

Jeff Braun went to his first car race at age 3. He started driving karts at age 7. Jeff graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a B.S Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981.

In 1982, he got an offer to manage a new team (Transact Inc.) to field cars for Alan Kulwicki in ASA competition. Jeff bought out the owners of Transact and became President and majority owner 2 years later.

In 1990 Jeff decided to take Transact into a pure race engineering consulting business. In the years to follow, Transact has engineered almost every type of race car run in the world.

Jeff has won 3 Sports Car championships in his career and many races.

With fellow engineer, Paul Haney, Jeff wrote a race engineering technical book, “Inside Racing Technology”.

Despite all the success as a engineer in major race series, Jeff says racing with his son Colin and family are the most special. The family including son Travis and wife Diane raced karts all over the world winning many races and 5 US National championships with Colin driving.

Jeff and Colin continue to work together on the business aspects of racing now that Colin is a NASCAR Nationwide series driver for Roush Fenway Racing.

Jeff is currently engineering cars in the Grand Am Rolex Daytona Prototype series for Level 5 Motorsports.
