Blown engine in Montreal stops charge to front

Montreal, Quebec – Colin Braun and the No. 16 3M team headed north of the border this weekend for a race they’ve had circled on the schedule all year. Braun, who grew up racing on road courses, was set to make his first start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the 2.71-mile road course in Montreal. Braun practiced the 3M Ford Fusion in last year’s race for Greg Biffle but Sunday marked the 20-year-old NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular’s first time taking the green flag. High hopes for the day were dashed just three laps in when Braun reported engine troubles. The issue turned out to be terminal and Braun was unable to return to the race. The 3M Ford Fusion recorded a 40th-place finish.
Braun rolled off 15th and was up to ninth on lap three when he first reported engine trouble. The 3M Ford Fusion came to a stop on the track and the crew watched helplessly as oil poured onto the ground from under the car. After three days of at track preparation, the 3M crew faced an abrupt end to the afternoon.
“That’s so disappointing,” said Braun. “It’s really unusual for us to have engine problems. The guys at Roush-Yates Engines do an unbelievable job getting these motors ready every week. The 3M Ford Fusion was really fast today – it’s pretty hard to look at it sitting in the garage instead of being on the track. It’s been a long weekend and everyone on the 3M team did a great job getting this car ready. I hate that this is how it had to end.”
