Colin 5th in Texas after starting 19th

FT. WORTH, Texas – Colin Braun came to his home with his third top-five finish in four starts at the 1.5-mile speedway. Braun fought the handling of the No. 6 Con-way Freight True LTL Ford F-150 early in the race, but after several adjustments throughout the race, the truck was fast when it counted at the end.
After winning the pole at Talladega last week, Braun qualified an uncharacteristic 19th for the race. He told crew chief Mike Beam the truck was a bit free on lap 10 but he gained two positions to move into 17th. By the time the first caution of the race came on lap 19 the truck was very free so Braun pitted for fuel and a track bar adjustment. Some teams took tires as well, which moved Braun up to 12th place for the restart on lap 24.

He cracked the top 10 on lap 36, but then fell back a bit once the truck began to lose grip and became loose in traffic. Braun was back in 14th when the next caution came on lap 56. He pitted twice for tires and fuel, along with wedge and air pressure adjustments. He maintained his 14th-place position when the race resumed on lap 60.

Braun began to work his way forward again and was up to 11th within 10 laps of the restart. Now the truck was tight in the center of the corners, but also loose in and off the corners. He was up to 10th place when the final caution of the night came on lap 90. Beam brought Braun to pit road for his final set of new tires, fuel, wedge and track bar adjustments. Quick work in the pits helped him gain four positions to restart the race in sixth place on lap 94.

Once Braun was up front he never looked back. Shortly after the restart he told the crew the truck was the best it had been all night. He moved up to fifth place on lap 103 and held that position until the checkered flag flew. Kyle Busch won the race, followed by Matt Crafton, Ron Hornaday and Todd Bodine.

“We certainly weren’t the fastest truck out there tonight but we probably worked the hardest to get the finish we did,” Braun said. “We struggled a bit in practice and early in the race, but between making the right adjustments and having great pit stops we got a good finish. The guys on this Con-way Freight team did a great job in the pits tonight. It was a tough race so I’m pleased to leave here with a top five.”

The No. 6 Con-way Freight True LTL team remains fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings. The next race will be on Friday, November 13 at Phoenix International Raceway. It will be live on SPEED at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
